| What
is Yoga?
The tradition
of Yoga has been practiced for over 5000 years. When translated
from Sanskrit, the word Yoga means "union". Therefore,
returning to wholeness is the essential meaning of Yoga; connecting
body, mind and spirit to the infinite.
Kripalu
Yoga is the Yoga of consciousness, inspired by Swami Kripalvananda
(Babuji). Kripalu is a meditative approach, using yogic breathing
techniques (pranayama) combined with placing your body in
sequences of postures (asanas). While stretching and strengthening
the body, postures are designed to stimulate specific internal
functioning such as: the digestive, circulatory and respiratory
systems. During the last 15-20 minutes of each class, the
art of relaxation is practiced. This is essential for the
immune system, and is where inner peace is developed.
The practice
of self respect and compassion is encouraged. While learning
to breathe through challenging postures, you may find yourself
more at ease breathing through life decisions. As you gain
relaxation techniques, you can find your life filled with
calmness and ease, better able to accept the reality of life
around you.
Therefore,
the benefits of Yoga are many. Reconnecting to body, mind
and spirit, we encourage a natural self-healing process, returning
us to wholeness.
